The Bank of England publishes monthly statistical data on lending to individuals, including breakdowns by type of lender and product. This includes credit card lending, overdrafts and other loans. Since August 2012, we have excluded student loans made through government student finance schemes from this data. This has the effect of making the underlying trends in other components of consumer credit clearer.
Instead, in July each year we publish an annual update to this data that includes the latest student loans data from the Student Loans Company. This data covers the period up until the end of the most recent tax year.
The seasonally adjusted consumer credit data, both including and excluding student loans, are available here:
- Total consumer credit (including student loans)
- Total consumer credit (excluding student loans)
- Total consumer credit (including student loans) changes
- Total consumer credit (excluding student loans) changes
- Total consumer credit (including student loans) 12-month growth rate
- Total consumer credit (excluding student loans) 12-month growth rate
