Consolidated worldwide claims - 2024 Q4

This statistical release covers the consolidated worldwide external claims and unused commitments of UK-owned monetary financial institutions (excluding central banks) and their branches and subsidiaries worldwide.

Key points

  • UK-owned monetary financial institutions and their branches and subsidiaries worldwide reported a decrease in consolidated external claims on an ultimate risk basis of $224.6 billion during 2024 Q4, to a level of $4,558.6 billion.
  • The decrease in claims was relatively well spread across sectors, with the largest decreases in claims on the Public sector, down by $66.4 billion to a level of $1,440.9 billion, and the Deposit-taking corporations sector, down $62.3 billion to a level of $623.7 billion.
  • By region, the largest decrease in claims was on Developed Countries, down $134.6 billion to a level of $2,776.2 billion. For Developed Countries, the largest decreases by country were on the United States (-$66.0 billion), Germany (-$29.9 billion) and Japan (-$18.6 billion).
