Welcome to the Bank of England in London

Two offices in the heart of the capital

Overview

The Bank of England has two sites in the heart of the City of London – Threadneedle Street and Moorgate.

The Threadneedle Street office is grade I listed building and the site of many of the Bank’s key processes, such as the Monetary Policy Committee meeting – where the interest rate is decided. It is also where we keep the gold and the £100 million banknotes (our Titans).

We have operated from a site in Moorgate for about ten years. It is an intuitively designed, modern office in the City of London, just a three-minute walk from Threadneedle Street.

Working from Threadneedle Street

The Bank moved here in 1734 and, over the next 100 years, bought adjacent properties until it owned the entire three and a half-acre site, which was then demolished and rebuilt between 1925 and 1939. It is an architectural marvel that combines historic features with modern furnishings. It has onsite cafés, showers, changing rooms, bike storage, a gym and a library. You will also find priceless works of art and a couple of Roman mosaics there.

Working from Moorgate

The site is divided into four ‘villages’, all furnished with high-quality equipment, conference rooms, soundproof pods and comfortable informal meeting areas. It has its own restaurant and coffee bar, as well as showers, changing rooms and lockers. Staff who work from Moorgate have full access to our Threadneedle Street site and its facilities, including the gym, library and museum.
