Notes:

[a] The Office for National Statistics have recently completed a review of the Credit Grantors Survey and have re-examined the assumptions underlying this series. This has decreased the amount outstanding of credit card lending by £2bn and the amount outstanding of other unsecured lending by £8bn in Q1 2010. Flows of gross and net lending were not significantly affected. (31 Mar 2010)

[b] The Office for National Statistics regularly reviews its reporters to the Credit Grantors Survey. Due to a change in the reporting population, the amount outstanding of unsecured credit in the months of 2011 has decreased by £0.5bn from the levels previously published. Of this credit card lending decreased by £0.4bn and other unsecured lending decreased by £0.1bn. These movements have been adjusted out of the lending flows from January 2011. (31 Mar 2011)

[c] The level of other unsecured lending has been reduced by £0.3bn following the transfer of a loan portfolio to a non-resident company. The movement has been adjusted out of the net lending flows for May 2011. (31 May 2011)

[d] Due to improvements in reporting at one institution, the amounts outstanding decreased by £2bn. This effect has been adjusted out of the flows for January 2012. (31 Jan 2012 - 31 Mar 2012)

[e] Due to a change in the reporting population, this series has increased by £0.5bn. The effect has been adjusted out of the flows for December 2012. (31 Dec 2012)

[f] The Office for National Statistics transferred their collection of monthly consumer credit data by 'other specialist lenders' to the Bank of England in April 2024. The Bank of England began collecting these data on 'Form MC' and made initial amendments to the reporting population. The overall impact of these amendments has been broadly balanced, with only a slight increase in the amounts outstanding, and some changes to gross lending and repayments series for consumer credit.
